An Enjoyable Look at Cinema Monsters!

I enjoyed this book. It represents a fast and pleasurable romp through the history of movie monsters from the silent era to today. John Landis, as almost everyone knows, directed some of the most well known and culturally influential movies, including An American Werewolf in London and The Blues Brothers. Landis's love for Dark Fantasy films really shines here and hooks the reader. The pictures are very attractive and the interviews with well known personalities involved with monster movies were educational. Landis is a very opinionated writer which I find to be refreshing. In his interviews, he is able to draw out blunt observations from those he talked with.

The monster movies are grouped into broad categories throughout the book. An incredibly lavish collection of hundreds of amazing pictures of all your favorite movie monsters ... many I have never seen before. You will spend some serious time looking at this. But, don't just look. Read. The interviews with Joe Dante, Sam Raimi, John Carpenter, Ray Harryhausen, Guillermo Del Toro, Rick Baker and David Cronenberg (and the captions of the photos) by the highly-opinionated and highly-entertaining and well-informed Landis are just great.

Keith Rigby is Chief Weapons Engineer – Autonomous Systems, BAE Systems Military Air Solutions. He has spent his entire career with BAE Systems, starting as a graduate in 1984 within Armament Control Systems & progressing to a senior management position on the Tornado GR4 engineering team. He then becoming Head of Weapons Control & Integration within the Air Systems business before assuming his current position in November 2008. During the last 25 years he has been involved in all aspects of the design, development and certification of armament systems and has been a key player in a number of weapon integration programmes including the weaponisation of unmanned systems. He is the author of the Weapons Integration chapter in the Encyclopaedia of Aerospace Engineering.

About the Author
William A. Bowditch has an extensive teaching and welding background. He has been a teacher, department head, and supervisor of special needs and vocational programs. In addition to his formal college training in preparation for teaching, Bill has taken several specialized courses in industry, such as the Hobart Welding School and American Welding Society courses. He is a member of the Association for Career and Technical Education and a life member of the American Welding Society. As a coauthor of Modern Welding, he has guided this Goodheart-Willcox book through many revisions to keep it up to date and technically correct in order to maintain its value as an authoritative welding text. He is also a coauthor of Welding Technology Fundamentals.Kevin E. Bowditch is a welding engineer specialist for Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. His welding experience includes working for two automotive firms, two aerospace firms, a construction company (building nuclear plants), and a precision sheet metal firm. While working for one aerospace firm, Kevin designed resistance welding and soldering equipment, special equipment for custom applications, and worked to develop correct welding and soldering schedules for customers. He has a Bachelor’s degree in welding engineering from The Ohio State University and has attended specialized conferences and courses sponsored by the American Welding Society, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and American National Standards Institute. Kevin joined his father as a coauthor of Modern Welding, beginning with the 1984 edition, and has been a coauthor of Welding Technology Fundamentals since its first edition was published in 1991.Mark A. Bowditch joined the Bowditch team of welding authors in 1998, when he co-authored Oxyfuel Gas Welding with his brother Kevin. He has more than ten years’ experience as an educator, holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and has taken classes at the Hobart Welding School and the University of Hawaii’s HCC welding program. He is also a co-author of Welding Technology Fundamentals with his brother and father.

Be warned, this is not the full textbook in paperback form, as it sounds in the Amazon description. This is the Lab Workbook. It's misleading. Call it a Lab Workbook in the Title Description!

When in the early 1990s I wrote my first book on project management I wanted to describe how to manage time, cost and quality (amongst other things). So I started to read what other people had written. I looked at one famous text book published by Gower. In the index "quality" had two page references. So I looked at both.
