I've reviewed this book before, years ago, on Barnes & Noble's website, and I have to again because James Haspiel's books on Marilyn are the best for any fan to own. His coverage of her career is spot on, thorough, and because of this I love his books the most.

Bit dated and too much focus on US

There is a wealth of information in this book but one major criticism is that much of the information relates specifically to the United States. Many of the varieties and rootstocks listed are not used outside of North America, or are of only minor importance elsewhere. The pest and diseases section is far too brief.

This 1993 edition is also a little dated (many new varieties and rootstocks are not covered). For someone thinking of buying the much more expensive later editions, but not sure whether to take the plunge, this might be good purchase to test out the material.

At only $10 or so, its still a useful investment.

About the Author

Ronald B. Adler is Professor Emeritus of Communication at Santa Barbara City College. He is coauthor of Understanding Human Communication, Eleventh Edition (OUP, 2012), Looking Out, Looking In (2011), and Communicating at Work: Principles and Practices for Business and the Professions (2010). In addition to his academic pursuits, Ron works with businesses and nonprofit agencies to improve communication among coworkers as well as with clients and the public.

Lawrence B. Rosenfeld is Professor of Communication Studies and Co- Chair of the Social- Behavioral Institutional Review Board, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of articles appearing in journals in communication, education, social work, sport psychology, and psychology, and of books on small group, interpersonal, and nonverbal communication. His most recent book is When Their World Falls Apart: Helping Families and Children Manage the Effects of Disasters (NASW Press, 2010). In 2000, Lawrence received the Donald H. Eckroyd Award for Outstanding Teaching in Higher Education from the National Communication Association, and in 2006 received the Gerald M. Phillips Award for Applied Communication Research from the same national communication organization.

Russell F. Proctor II is Professor of Communication Studies at Northern Kentucky University. He primarily teaches courses in interpersonal communication and interviewing, and he won NKU's Outstanding Professor Award in 1997. In addition to his work on Interplay, he is also coauthor of Looking Out, Looking In (2011). Russ has written and presented extensively on the use of feature fi lms as instructional tools in communication courses (including Now Playing for OUP).

I had to buy this book for one of my classes and ended up reading ahead (which I never, ever do). Interpersonal communications is fascinating to me, and this book has a perfect way of explaining different ways to communicate interpersonally AND how to perfect your own style. I believe this book is helping me become a better communicator within all my relationships.

Learning About Yourself and Others

At the beginning of the year I rented the book Interplay: The Process of Interpersonal Communication. I use this book for the course Interpersonal Communication that I am currently enrolled in. This is a great textbook that is paperback and interesting to read.

Interplay is a realistic fiction book that is useful for myself, being a communications major, but also for other students who are interested in the course. It’s an informative and easy text to read. Since the class that I am enrolled in isn’t really assignment based from the book, the text is useful in regards to just reading it and learning. Even though some students don’t favor in reading long pieces of text, this book gets really interesting it’s almost as if you start reading and just can’t stop. The authors greatly layout the ways of communication throughout each chapter. The book is written in two parts but the topics are discussed in twelve chapters. These chapters explain the fundamentals of relationships, communication skills, and the basics of interpersonal communication. Within these chapters are a variety of vocabularies that not only defines the word but also gives examples. The examples help to better understand the word which is really nice about this book. Another great aspect of this book is that the examples given could perhaps relate to your life or maybe you can get ideas of bad habits you may want to change. One thing that my professor does is have in class applications and these applications apply to each chapter with various scenarios in which the class must discuss.

I do find this textbook very graphical. It includes a picture at the opening page of the chapter that symbolizes what will be discussed. The graphics in this book engages the reader and leaves them with the sense of wanting to know more. At the end of each chapter it has activities composed of questions that the reader can complete to test their knowledge.

I find this book really interesting so therefore I don’t have anything that I dislike about it. There aren’t really any other books besides the previous versions of this text that will compare between the two so therefore you can’t really go wrong. This is especially because it is cheap to purchase but a better buy if you rent it instead of purchasing new.

Even though I am not done reading the book in its entirety, I am really looking forward to learning and knowing more about communication. My suggestion to those who are interested in communication skills is to not only purchase this book but also take the Interpersonal Communication course. You will learn a lot about yourself and how you perceive others.

This is an excellent text for an undergraduate course on interpersonal communication. In addition to easy-to-understand content, the end-of-chapter exercises are helpful (as are the ones that can be found in the instructor's text). An all-around good book.

I share my philosophy on iron condor trading and ideas on how a winning trader thinks. The goal is to offer guidance that allows you to develop good trade habits and an intelligent way of thinking about trading. We all learn as we gain experience, but some experience can be destructive when mindsets -- that are dangerous to your longevity as a trader -- become ingrained habits. This book helps traders avoid developing a difficult-to-break way of thinking. This book was prepared for an audience that already understands the most basic concepts about options. Although some of the material is suitable for rookies. If you do not understand the difference between a put and call or have zero trading experience, I encourage you to begin with the most basic concepts about options before continuing. There are numerous sources of information, but I recommend my recently updated (2013) The Rookie’s Guide to Options, 2nd edition. Another decision involves the pre-planned (I encourage preparation of a trade plan for each trade) exit when the target profit is achieved. If you have no profit target, then you will be hard pressed to exit when the trade continues to earn money. As profits accumulate, it becomes a daily decision: hold or exit. It is important to recognize when there is too little remaining profit potential for the prudent trader to hold. The trade plan helps with making good and timely decisions -- and that makes you a more disciplined trader. Closing the position could also be a gut-wrenching decision that locks in a loss and is made because it has become essential to take risk-reducing action. The book offers a solid introduction to risk management for iron condor traders. The following points represent the foundation of my beliefs, and the book is written accordingly: (1)The ability to manage risk is the most important skill for any trader; (2) Take time to learn about the Greeks. It is not difficult, and it allows you to recognize the risk (and reward) potential for any position; (3) Discipline is necessary when managing risk. It is one thing to say that you understand what risk management is all about, but it is another to put it into practice; (4) Let another trader earn the last nickel or dime on the call and put spreads that comprise the iron condor. Pay a small sum to exit, lock in profits, and eliminate all risk. The iron condor is most often traded as a single transaction, consisting of four legs. About the Author
I first began trading options in 1975; just two years after the CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange) opened its trading floor. My strategy of choice was writing covered calls. In late 1976, I was employed by Monsanto Company as a research chemist when a friend bought a seat on the CBOE. We had lengthy discussions about his new venture. Long story short, he gave me an opportunity to come to Chicago and trade as a market maker as his nominee because he did not want to trade himself. I accepted, quit my job and drove to Chicago. That was December 20, 1976 and my life changed forever. I'm still in the options business, 37 years later. I left the CBOE trading floor in the year 2000. Since that time I've been trading my own account — just as you do — as a retail customer. But, I added something new when I began writing and teaching others how to trade options with a conservative bias. My first book was published in 2002 (The Short Book on Options) and others followed. I published a blog for several years, and the contents are still available. My current projects include a) developing this blog at about.com and would love to hear from you with comments, questions, requests for topics to discuss, etc., and b) writing a series of eBooks on individual option strategies. Torrian's a Winner!

I loved Torrian's story! Kiera has definitely done it again with this intriguing tale. At the same time she captivates the reader with the way she continues to develop her characters. You feel like you know the Grants and Ramsays and want to continue to get to know them. Torrian has grown into a kind, compassionate adult who is one of the good guys and meets his soulmate in Heather. This book has enough action that it holds your interest and you don't want to put it down once you start reading. Now I want Lily's story ASAP!

there were times it just seemed so saccharine sweet I just couldn't buy in to it

I was hoping I could give this a four or five star review but it truly was just ok for me. There were so many instances that were unbelievable to me; one of them being how the very little girl talks so grown up, but there were others also. In addition, there were times it just seemed so saccharine sweet I just couldn't buy in to it. I also was longing for more action in the story.

About the Author
Brad is the Dean Emeritus of Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Prior to assuming the position as Dean in 1994, he served as the first Director of the Office of Environmental Education for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. Brad also served as the Acting President of the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation in Washington, D.C., and as a Special Assistant to the EPA Administrator. Before moving to Washington, D.C., Dean Smith was a professor of political science and environmental studies for 15 years, and the executive director of an environmental education center and nature refuge for five years.

Eldon is an emeritus professor of biology at Delta College. He has over 30 years of teaching experience in biology, zoology, and environmental science. Eldon has been a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in Australia and Scotland, received the Bergstein Award for Teaching Excellence at Delta College, and participated in an Earthwatch Research Program in Costa Rica. In addition to the environmental science text, Eldon is co-author of the very successful CONCEPTS IN BIOLOGY general biology text with McGraw-Hill.

Excellent Text Book, Easy to understand.

I used this book for my Environmental Science class for college. The book is very well organized and I learned alot from it. It's not loaded with technical terms and was easy to understand. Very beneficial. Perfect for college or for someone who would like to learn more about the Earth, what we are doing to it and how we can protect it.

Well written and easy for students to relate to

I ordered this book for a college course I was taking. It has a ton of really interesting concepts and the authors strive to make the textbook both user friendly and informational. The way the book is written was also very easy to read and had stories that I could relate with to really drive the concepts home. I enjoyed this class so much that I convinced a friend to sign up for it too and sold my book to her the following quarter.

I'm glad that I only rented this book. It did arrive on time and looked brand new. There is no dictionary in it so if you need a better understanding of a word keep your computer on. And the glossary is pretty useless when trying to find some sections of the book. And if you have a heavy class load and enjoy reading ALOT then this book is for you. Because they crammed a whole bunch of information in it. Most chapters are 30 pages or better...with small type. I do have to admit that the photography in the book is nicely done.

Amazon Kudos to you....the book not so much.

Marsha Petrie Sue not only had the audacity to call her book TOXIC PEOPLE, the same name as my best selling book written 13 years earlier. She also did word for word copying in her book TOXIC PEOPLE. She was sued and lost in US Federal Court and lost the case and is now and will always be deemed a copyright infringer (Dr. Lillian Glass v Marsha Petrie Sue Case Number CV 09-08570-RGK (SHx). In essence she took someone else's materials and claimed it as her own.

About the Author
John Mauk has a Ph.D. in rhetoric and writing from Bowling Green State University and a Masters in language and literature from the University of Toledo. Scholarship includes an article on critical geography and composition (COLLEGE ENGLISH, March 2003). Mauk now teaches composition and rhetoric courses at Northwestern Michigan College. In 2007, he served on the NCTE Nominating Committee.

John Metz has a B.A. in English from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (1983) and an M.A. in English from the University of Toledo (1985). He has taught first-year writing for over 20 years and currently teaches at Kent State University at Geauga in Twinsburg, Ohio.
